Economic, political situation in U.S. worsens: diplomat on Trump’s policies
Certain structures and individuals are leading Donald Trump toward a disaster—both a personal political one and a catastrophe for the United States. This has also been noticed in Europe
Diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi, expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“The announcement of new tariffs, called the ‘Day of Liberation’ for the United States of America, showed how absurd the actions of even the head of a state that is considered the foundation of global democracy and order can be,” he noted.
The reaction to this was not only political but also economic. Stock markets clearly demonstrated that such steps can have very negative consequences. Many experts are predicting a recession as a result. According to Bezsmertnyi, this could mean a serious decline in economic and business activity, an investment crisis, and mass unemployment.
“Moreover, Donald Trump and his circle, in presenting these decisions, used false data. For example, high tariffs were one of the factors behind the Great Depression, but Trump claimed they could have prevented it. And a number of similar statements that Trump made in the White House garden during the ‘liberation’ presentation show that the analytical data he receives is often distorted, falsified, and may pose a great danger,” he added.
Trump’s recent actions have been criticized for lacking coordination with international partners, the diplomat pointed out.
“Coordination is a key theme at the core of Donald Trump’s actions. Experts from Germany, the UK, and France have described these actions in much harsher terms. The Economist even called it an ‘encyclopedia of stupidity.’ This all began a while ago, but the culmination came when the United States recently conducted a military operation against the Yemeni Houthis. It mirrored the events of January 2023 but was carried out without the involvement of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, or the NATO system.
As a result, the expected outcome was not achieved, clearly showing how crucial coordination between countries is. And it’s important to note that Donald Trump himself monitored these attacks. He should have realized that the outcome, unfortunately, fell short of expectations,” he said.
The protests that took place over the weekend in the United States under the slogan “Anti-Trump Day” showed that American society will not tolerate this kind of presidential behavior for long.
“I, like most experts, did not expect the rallies to be so massive. One of the demands of the protesters was the initiation of impeachment proceedings, which was supported by one Democratic congressman, and later a whole group joined him. So, the political and economic situation in the United States is deteriorating, while Donald Trump is playing golf, showing that he believes nothing is happening,” the diplomat concluded.
U.S. tariffs against all countries
On April 2, Donald Trump announced the introduction of tariffs of at least 10% on almost all goods imported into the U.S. The tariffs will take effect on April 9.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged the countries targeted by the tariffs not to take immediate retaliatory measures, saying that doing so would lead to escalation.
Later, the U.S. President declared a state of emergency to “increase competitiveness, protect sovereignty, and strengthen national and economic security.”
After the tariffs were introduced, Trump also promised that the U.S. would become stronger.
However, just one day after the new tariffs were implemented, the combined wealth of the 500 richest people in the world decreased by $208 billion.
Soon after, British company Jaguar Land Rover announced it would suspend deliveries of its cars to the United States for a month due to the 25% tariff imposed by President Donald Trump. Audi made a similar decision.
At the same time, on April 7, Trump announced that if China did not remove its 34% tariffs by April 8, the U.S. would introduce new, even higher tariffs on Chinese goods.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU had offered the U.S. zero tariffs on industrial goods following Trump’s tariff measures.
