China's growing influence and looming World War III: diplomat explains why Trump mends relations with Russia
Diplomat and Director of the Kyiv Security Forum Danylo Lubkivsky noted that at this stage, Trump is seeking another improvement in relations with Russia
He shared his opinions on Espreso TV.
"There is a consensus within the American establishment, particularly among the political elite, regarding the impracticality of destroying Russia. It is believed that Russia must be preserved. Around this ideology, though flawed, there is a consensus for various reasons. At the same time, there is almost unanimous support for the sovereignty and statehood of Ukraine, although radical forces may underestimate the importance of our country," noted Lubkivsky.
Today, Donald Trump is shaping his political stance, taking into account these elements, as well as the main challenges to the national and security interests of the United States. Among these challenges are the growing role of China and preventing a Third World War or nuclear conflict, says the diplomat.
"In the first 50 days of Trump's presidency, we observe the formation of his tactical line. As for the strategic line, there is an assumption that the Trump administration is increasingly convinced that America has a new way of concentrating internal power. This is confirmed by an analytical report from the Heritage Foundation titled Project 2025, which suggests that America should return to its national interests, focus on its priorities, including prioritizing interests on the North American continent. This is the source of Trump's aggressive policy towards Canada, Greenland, and other regions," explained Lubkivsky.
Thus, Trump, regarding Russia, is operating based on these core elements and, at this stage, aims to further improve relations with Russia. Although this goal is unlikely to be achieved, it dominates his political thinking and that of his closest circle.
