China pushes diplomacy as U.S. backs Ukraine’s strikes on Russia
China responded to the U.S. decision to let Ukraine use long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes inside Russia, emphasizing that a "political resolution" to the war is in everyone's best interest
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made this statement regarding the reports about the U.S. granting permission to Kyiv to use ATACMS, Ukrinform reports.
"Currently, the most important thing is to facilitate the cooling down of the situation as quickly as possible. It is in the interests of all parties to cease fire and hostilities as soon as possible and seek a political resolution," the spokesperson said.
At the same time, the diplomat did not criticize U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to allow the use of long-range missiles. Instead, Lin Jian reiterated China's official stance, emphasizing that Beijing maintains a "clear position on the Ukrainian issue" and encourages and supports all efforts to resolve the "crisis."
"China is ready to continue playing a constructive role in its own way in the political resolution of the 'Ukrainian crisis,'" the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.
