Why is Russian envoy Dmitriev heading to U.S.? Political analyst explains motive
Yevhen Mahda, Executive Director of the Institute of World Policy, believes Russia is sending Kirill Dmitriev to the U.S. to signal "negotiability"
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Kirill Dmitriev is a Kyiv native with experience working for Viktor Pinchuk (Ukrainian businessman, politician, and oligarch - ed.). He is a very interesting figure who was involved in securities trading. I even remember that the organization he headed about 15 years ago had an office in Podil. The Russians are trying to use him as a politically untainted figure to demonstrate that Russia can be 'good' and take certain 'right' steps. Dmitriev is meant to create an aura of a deal for Trump, specifically that a peace deal is just around the corner - one so significant that Trump would not only make it into history textbooks but, God forbid, even into the Holy Scriptures," Mahda explained.
The political scientist noted that the Kremlin has been actively studying Trump's psychological profile to use it to achieve its goals.
“However, I think that Russia is simply using its knowledge of Trump's psychological profile. They will do everything possible to use Trump in their own interests,” he concluded.
- On April 2, CNN reported, citing its own sources, that Kirill Dmitriev will visit Washington this week to meet with U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff.
