Russian envoy Dmitriev to visit U.S. for talks with Witkoff
Senior Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev will visit Washington this week to meet with U.S. President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff
CNN reported the information, citing its own sources.
The officials are expected to discuss strengthening relations between Russia and the United States.
Dmitriev’s visit will be the first by a senior Russian official to Washington for talks since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. It also marks another step in the noticeable warming of relations between the two countries.
A source also reported that the U.S. has temporarily lifted sanctions on Dmitriev to allow the State Department to issue him a visa.
Dmitriev, a close adviser to Putin, visited Riyadh in February with senior Russian officials to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. He also worked with Witkoff to secure the release of American teacher Mark Vogel, which the Trump administration called a “goodwill gesture.”
- Dmitriev previously said that talks with businessman and head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, could take place soon.
