WHO closes its office in Moscow. Ukraine initiated this process in May 2022
The WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in Moscow will be closed. Its functions will be transferred to Copenhagen (Denmark)
Health Minister Viktor Liashko reported this, noting that Ukraine initiated this process in May 2022.
“An absolute majority of member states voted for the relevant decision today during a special session of the World Health Organization's Regional Committee for Europe,” the minister wrote.
According to him, this decision was preceded by heated discussions, but in the end it demonstrates a unified vision of the European region.
“The closure of the office in Moscow is the first successful example of an international organization's withdrawal from Russia. Thank you for this powerful political signal, which I am sure will not be the last. It will be heard until this unjustified aggression stops and the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Liashko said.
