“What other argument is needed to invite Ukraine to Nato?”: Reznikov on Alliance summit in Vilnius
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called on NATO to continue supporting Ukraine on its path to membership, but admitted that such proposal cannot be made at this stage
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, said this in an interview with the Financial Times.
“We are aware that during the hot phase, it is unlikely to make a unanimous political decision. But a clear signal, a clear design,” he said.
Reznikov pointed out that Ukraine is the only country in the world with combat experience in holding off the Russians and achieving victories with NATO weapons. “What other argument is needed to invite Ukraine to Nato?” the minister asked.
Currently, Ukrainian troops are involved in formation operations to assess the Russian defense lines, which Russia has strengthened with multiple lines of troops, minefields, and trenches. Analysts believe that the purpose of multiple points of attack is to keep Russia uncertain about the main strike's origin. However, Reznikov cautioned that the planned counteroffensive will be different from last year's impressive defeat of Russian troops in Kyiv, as well as in the Kharkiv region and Kherson. “You can’t expect a miracle in every operation.”
