West's resolve not to negotiate with Putin intensifies – Piontkovsky
A prominent political scientist from Washington, D.C., Andrey Piontkovsky, believes that Putin is now fighting for his power and life, so he desperately needs some kind of agreement
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
The political analyst commented on the Kremlin's interest in additional third-party negotiators.
"The Kremlin desperately needs the intervention of negotiators because it realises that it is losing the war. Now Putin is not fighting for victory over the West. Let me remind you that the war began with his ultimatum to the West: grab your stuff and get out of here to the Batu Khan-Jugashvili line, as I call it. The war has been lost, Putin is now fighting for his power and life, and he desperately needs some kind of deal to sell to his hinterland people as an honourable draw. That's why there is such frantic activity on all fronts," Piontkovsky noted.
Andrey Piontkovsky noted that the West did not succumb to Putin's pressure.
"The official position of the Group of Seven and the West remains the same: no negotiations with Putin until he agrees to withdraw from all the occupied territories of Ukraine. This was clearly stated by Biden on the White House porch during his meeting with Macron. And this position of the West has not changed. On the contrary, Zelenskyy's triumphant visit to Europe shows that this resolve of the West not to negotiate with Putin until he agrees to a complete withdrawal from the occupied territories has only strengthened and is now supported by more decisive actions to supply arms to Ukraine," the political analyst concluded.
