We must put an end to any dependence on Russia - Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bohdan Aurescu, believes that relations with Russia should rely on one principle: that the European Union should get rid of any dependence on Moscow
Bohdan Aurescu told journalists before the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague on Tuesday, August 30.
"We cannot return to the usual relations with the Russian Federation. Now, of course, it is too early to assess the future of relations between the EU and Russia, because it depends on the development of events in Ukraine. But one thing is clear: we must end any dependence on Russia." - he said.
In addition, the head of the foreign policy department of Romania announced a meeting with the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia on Wednesday.
"And this is important, because this is the first such meeting after the important decision taken by the European Council to grant them candidate status. So we have to hear these countries, find out their needs, in order to provide assistance and technical support for reforms, after which they will become members of the EU." - added Aurescu.
