Putin orders spring military draft, calling up 160,000 Russians for service
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the spring conscription for military service of Russian citizens aged 18 to 30, totaling 160,000 people

The Russian state news agency TASS reported the information.
“To carry out, from April 1 to July 15, 2025, the conscription for military service of citizens of the Russian Federation aged 18 to 30 who are not in the reserves and are subject to conscription in accordance with Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998 ‘On Military Duty and Military Service,’ in the amount of 160,000 people,” the decree states.
The same decree also provides for the discharge from military service of soldiers, sailors, sergeants, and petty officers whose term of service under conscription has expired.
- Defense Express military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi noted that Russia may be able to continue active combat operations for another year without resorting to a new mobilization.
