Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy 3 Russian helicopters in half an hour

During a half-hour anti-aircraft battle from 00:00 a.m. to 00:30 a.m. on January 24, 2023, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 3 Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters in the eastern direction. 

Later, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had shot down another enemy SU-25 aircraft in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian film nominated for Oscars

For the first time in the history of Ukraine, a film from Ukraine, A House Made of Splinters, has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film. The film was co-produced by Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.

The film tells the stories of children from a special orphanage in eastern Ukraine. It also features several educators who are trying to create a safe space for children near the front line in the context of the war with Russia.

The US may supply Ukraine with Abrams tanks

US President Joe Biden is ready to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine to encourage Germany to supply Leopard tanks. An unnamed senior US Defense Department official shared the information with Sky News Arabia on January 24.

According to the official, President Joe Biden is ready to send about 10 Abrams tanks, and "Kyiv needs 500 tanks to counter what Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing for." 

Meanwhile, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said at a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv that Finland is discussing the possibility of establishing a powerful Leopard tank unit in Europe for Ukraine. 

Also, 12 countries have reportedly agreed to supply Ukraine with about 100 Leopard 2 tanks if the German government consents to the transfer.

Ukrainian doctors perform a lung transplant for the first time on their own 

A lung transplant from a posthumous donor was successfully performed in Lviv. This is the second lung transplant performed in Ukraine and the first one performed by doctors without the help of foreign colleagues.

"Our doctors performed this surgery without the help of foreign colleagues. For the first time, not only for us, but for Ukraine. And you know, like everything in life, this path was not easy. We worked hard and prepared for a long time. And now we have a team of the best doctors. We also have reliable friends - the team of the Heart Institute. They drove all night to help transplant the heart while our cardiac surgeons worked on the lungs," said Oleh Samchuk, CEO of the first Territorial medical association.

Bayraktar plant project in Ukraine is finished

Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar said at a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center that the company that will build the Bayraktar plant in Ukraine has completed the preparation of the physical design.

"We expect that the plant will start operating within the next 2 years and will start producing equipment with Ukrainian components," Bodnar said.
