Victorious news of 334th day of war: new EU tranche of military aid, destruction of Russian attack aircraft and appointment of Ukrainian woman as Vice President of PACE

Ukraine will receive EUR 500 million in military aid from the EU

Hungary lifted its veto, so on January 23, the EU countries agreed on the 7th tranche of military aid in the amount of EUR 500 million. This was announced by Lithuania's Permanent Representative to the EU, Arnoldas Pranckevičius. This is money from the European Peace Fund, from which EU countries finance lethal weapons and protective equipment for Ukraine.

This decision has brought the total amount of military assistance from the EU to EUR 3.6 billion.

The EU foreign ministers agreed to allocate another EUR 45 million for equipment for an EU military training mission for Ukraine, Reuters reports.

Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy two Russian Su-25 attack aircraft and a Ka-52 helicopter

On January 23, 2023, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 6 air targets in the eastern direction of the front line. Among them were two Russian Su-25 attack aircraft, a Ka-52 attack helicopter, two Kh-59 guided missiles, and an Orlan-10 operational-tactical UAV. 

Two Russian planes worth EUR 10 million arrested in Ukraine

A court has seized 2 AN-148 aircraft belonging to a Russian joint-stock company that the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council has imposed personal and economic sanctions on.

Investigators found that in 2021, the sanctioned company, using an offshore company in Cyprus to circumvent the sanctions, entered into a lease agreement for the aircraft with a Ukrainian company that used them in its business activities. After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the lease was terminated. The planes, worth about EUR 10 million, were to be taken out of Ukraine.

Two Ukrainian coins in the top 10 best coins in the world

Two Ukrainian commemorative coins were included in the top 10 best coins in the world according to the results of the Coin of the Year international coin competition and won in the nominations Best Coin about a Modern Event and Most Artistic Coin of the Year. Ukrainian MP becomes vice president of PACE

Ukrainian MP Olena Khomenko has been elected Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Two more Ukrainian MPs have been elected to head PACE committees. On January 23, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Maria Mezentseva, was elected chair of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, and Yevhenia Kravchuk was elected chair of the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media.
