US Congressmen appeal to Biden to provide Ukraine with ATACMS
Representatives of the US Congress urge President Joe Biden to send long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine
This is stated in a letter from representatives of the Helsinki Commission addressed to the US President, Foreign Policy reports.
The leaders of the bipartisan Helsinki Commission called on the White House to authorize the delivery of the American Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) to Ukraine. It can be fired from the multiple launch rocket systems provided to Ukraine earlier.
Congressmen Joe Wilson and Steve Cohen stated in a letter, which was also signed by Commissioner Victoria Spartz, that it was time to commit to Ukraine's complete victory and deliver all the tools it needed, now that the decision to send the F-16 had been made.
The letter added that almost every military system requested by Ukraine was delivered after significant pressure. They urged the White House not to wait for a new pressure campaign to provide ATACMS.
And US Senator Lindsey Graham said it was necessary to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles and cluster munitions as soon as possible.
"The sooner long-range ATACMS missiles and cluster munitions are provided, the more territory they (Ukrainians – ed.) will be able to regain and the fewer lives will be lost," Graham said.
He emphasized that the transfer of ATACMS and cluster munitions may make "probable success at the front greater, save Ukrainian lives and accelerate the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine."
The senator emphasized that the Ukrainians should be given what they needed, stating that if they won, so would the US.
