This was announced at a briefing on Monday by the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, Ukrinform reports.
"As far as I know, the meeting (of the UN Security Council - ed.) should take place this week. But this, of course, is a matter for the Security Council itself," he said.
Earlier, Ukraine itself demanded to convene a meeting of the Security Council in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling the Russian president's move one that undermines the principles of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the nuclear disarmament, and the international security system as a whole.
The day before, Putin said that by July 1, Belarus would complete a storage facility for Russian tactical nuclear weapons and Russia will deploy them in the neighboring country.
