Completely new model: Military expert on Rheinmetall's supply of 100 km long artillery shells to Ukraine

Defense Express Director and military expert Serhiy Zgurets noted that the Ukrainian army has actually already used high-precision artillery shells with a range of 70 km.

He discussed this on Espreso TV.

"In recent days, there has been some interesting news about the statement by Rheinmetall's management that Ukraine will be supplied with experimental shells with a range of 100 km. This is a rather optimistic statement, because there is no ammunition with such a range, and the Ukrainian army has actually already used precision artillery shells with a range of about 70 km. These were munitions developed by the Germans and Italians, and we received 255 of these shells with a range of up to 70 kilometers. Now we are talking about a completely new model, the appearance and capabilities of which we do not yet know," commented Serhiy Zgurets.

According to him, Rheinmetall is trying to move in this promising direction and is developing new ammunition samples.

"I have not yet found any preliminary information about these samples of ammunition in Rheinmetall's arsenal. There is a more important component of this German company's assistance - the production of ammunition. We know that Rheinmetall is expected to produce 700,000 155 mm shells by the end of the year, which is actually the lion's share of what the EU and NATO countries will be producing. We also know that Rheinmetall is opening a new facility in Saxony, where it will produce another 200,000 rounds of ammunition starting in 2025. We remember that back in February, the Ministry of Strategic Industries announced that together with Rheinmetall they had reached an agreement to establish an ammunition plant in Ukraine that will produce more than 100,000 rounds per year," the military expert said.

Zgurets summarized that the production of more conventional ammunition is perhaps more necessary and realistic for us than the expectation of shells with a range of 100 km.
