White House says Ukraine plans new counteroffensive — FT

National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan said that in 2025 Ukraine plans to launch a new counteroffensive after receiving US military assistance.

The Financial Times reports.

It is noted that the Russians may gain success on the battlefield in the coming period, despite the allocation of US military aid, because "you can’t instantly flip the switch."

Sullivan said that with the new assistance from Washington, Ukraine will be able to "hold the line" through 2024.

According to him, in 2025, Ukraine intends to "move forward to recapture the territory that the Russians have taken from them.”

However, any new offensive by Ukrainian troops in 2025 will depend on increased funding from Congress and the approval of the White House, the Financial Times writes.

The assistance package for Ukraine

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan on April 20, 2024.

On April 24, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a $95 billion package of bills to help Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan and to confiscate Russian assets under a shortened procedure, which had been approved by the Senate earlier in the day.
