This is noted in the statement of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown.
"Operationally, our boats, staff and supplies are ready to go. However, the Russian Federation has not yet provided the security guarantees necessary to cross to the left bank of the Dnipro River, including to Oleshky," Brown said.
"These guarantees are necessary for the safety of our team and to prevent additional risks for the people we want to help," she added.
According to her, the UN will continue to provide the necessary assistance in areas under the control of the Government of Ukraine and make every effort to reach people affected by the flooding and in need of help.
On June 12, during a broadcast of the United News telethon, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that the UN had formed a mission to be sent to the left bank of the Kherson region.
"The UN has promised to prepare missions ready to go to the left bank of the Dnipro to help alleviate the humanitarian consequences of the disaster for the population in these areas. The mission has been formed. The UN sent a request for security guarantees to Ukraine and Russia as the occupier. Ukraine immediately provided such guarantees. We did everything to ensure that the UN could reach our citizens on the left bank and help them. Instead, Russia has not responded so far," Kuleba said.
Regarding the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Kuleba noted that the organization had not requested any guarantees for its work in the temporarily occupied territory. At the same time, the ICRC has started working on the right bank, providing humanitarian aid to the victims.
In total, the Foreign Minister noted that in the almost week since the Kakhovka HPP was blown up, 19 countries have allocated humanitarian aid to Ukraine. It has already arrived from 12 countries. In particular, Ukraine has received more than 150 generators, more than 120 inflatable boats, 400 pumps and pumps to pump out water, half a million water purification tablets, as well as drinking water, food, etc.
On Tuesday, June 6, Russian occupation forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP, completely destroying it. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine immediately began evacuating civilians from a number of settlements that fell into potential flood zones on the right bank of the Dnipro River. Some residents also evacuated on their own. Meanwhile, residents of the temporarily occupied settlements on the left bank were left without assistance. In particular, Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, noted that the occupiers isolated Oleshky in Kherson Oblast and evacuated only residents with Russian passports. And Serhii Khlan, Kherson regional council deputy told Espreso that the occupiers had placed positions on the roofs of flooded houses in the left-bank Kherson region and were shooting at people trying to get out of the water trap.
