8 dead confirmed in Oleshkivska community, Russian forces completely seal off town - head of Kherson regional administration
Occupying Russian forces have sealed off Oleshky, Kherson region, which was flooded due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Only residents with Russian passports can evacuate.
This was reported by Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, during the telethon.
"The situation in the Oleshkivska community, as well as on the left bank in general, is very critical. Russian invaders announced some kind of evacuation, but they did not follow through. There was no evacuation. Now the community has almost no communication, electricity or gas supply. The population is in dire need of drinking water and food," Prokudin said.
It is reported that over the past two days, the Russian soldiers have completely closed the town of Oleshky and imposed a so-called quarantine. Residents are not allowed to leave, and Russian checkpoints have been set up at the exits. There are cases of looting.
Prokudin emphasized that the enemy evacuates only people with Russian passports to Voronezh.
"As for the victims, 8 people have been confirmed to have died as a result of the flooding. This is verified information from Oleshky doctors. There are cases of finding dead bodies in the community. The figures are not confirmed information," summarized the head of the Military Administration and added that Ukrainian forces managed to evacuate about 100 people from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson region.
As a reminder, on June 7, the first victims of the flooding in Kherson region were reported. According to the mayor of Oleshky, Yevhen Ryshchuk, 3 people were preliminarily killed in the flood. On the same day, Ukrainian police managed to rescue a woman and children who were stuck in a flooded house in the temporarily occupied Oleshky.
As of June 8, the occupation administration is not evacuating people from Oleshky, which is 90% flooded, and is not allowing residents to leave the town on their own.
Flooding situation
On June 6, occupying Russian forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP, completely destroying it. Evacuation efforts have begun to move residents away from the flooded areas. On Friday, June 9, the water level in Mykolaiv continued to be monitored. It was reported that the water level in the city had dropped by 2 cm overnight, and by another 3 cm in the morning.
On the morning of June 10, it was reported that the water level in Mykolaiv was 88 centimeters.
As of Saturday evening, June 10, the water level in Mykolaiv was 84 centimeters.
