Umerov talks with US Secretary of Defense Austin
On October 21, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov had a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin
Umerov wrote about this on Facebook.
"I had a substantive conversation with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. I informed my American colleague about the situation on the battlefield," the statement says.
The Ukrainian minister thanked the U.S. leadership and Secretary Austin for providing Ukraine with ATACMS missiles and assured that they would have a significant impact on the battlefield.
- On the night of October 16-17, Ukrainian defenders successfully attacked Russian helicopters and airfields in Luhansk and Berdyansk. Foreign media reported that during this attack, Ukraine used for the first time against Russian troops the American long-range ATACMS missiles that the United States had secretly sent a few days earlier.
- Subsequently, the White House confirmed the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed their use against Russian troops.
Later it became known that Ukraine had received about 20 long-range ATACMS missiles from the United States.
