Ukrainian forces see no signs of peace despite 'truce' claims — combat medic
Tetiana Lisitsyna, a combat medic with the 3rd Assault Battalion of Ukraine’s 5th Assault Brigade, stated that Ukrainian military personnel do not take peace talks seriously, as the situation on the frontlines proves that fair negotiations with the Russians are impossible
She shared her opinions in an interview with Espreso TV.
"For me and everyone I communicate with here, all these talks about a ceasefire are ridiculous. We are between life and death. Of course, everyone wants a ceasefire, but on the front, we see a completely different situation. It’s also important to emphasize what kind of ceasefire it will be, and under whose conditions. The conditions should be only Ukrainian, and we will dictate them. None of us agree to the terms that are being proposed. We will continue to destroy the enemy and stand as long as necessary," Lisitsyna believes.
The medic cautioned against relying on hopes for a negotiated agreement with the Russians. She noted that the occupying forces continue to propose unrealistic conditions, while reaffirming that Ukraine remains committed to preserving its territories and protecting its citizens.
"Give up our land and people? People in the occupation are waiting to be liberated. They’re waiting for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to free them. Sorry, but today our soldiers are holding positions and stopping the enemy, and here they’re talking about negotiations. What are they even talking about? The Russians are putting forward completely unrealistic conditions, no one will leave or give up their territory. Yes, it’s ruined, but it’s our land," she added.
Russia self-declares "Easter truce"
Vladimir Putin unilaterally announced an “Easter truce” beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Leading up to 6:00 p.m., air raid alerts continued in Kyiv, and Russian drones were shot down over the capital’s Left Bank.
At 5:30 p.m., Russia launched a missile strike on Izyum in the Kharkiv region. Even after the announced start of the truce, Russian FPV drones continued hitting targets in the Kherson region.
After 9:00 p.m. on April 19, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief briefed President Zelenskyy with updated information from all frontline sectors regarding the implementation of Putin’s so-called “Easter truce.” At that time, it was reported that while some areas had quieted down, others remained active with ongoing hostilities.
As of Easter morning, April 20, Russian forces appear to be trying to create the impression of a ceasefire at the front, but are still carrying out isolated attacks and attempting to push forward in some areas.
