The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on December 29.

Russian attacks across Ukraine

At night, Russia launched a massive missile attack against Ukraine, hitting critical infrastructure, industrial, military and civilian facilities. The Russian forces used about 160 air attack weapons against Ukraine: missiles of various types and attack UAVs. Ukraine's Air Defense Forces destroyed 88 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs.

In total, the Russian troops launched 134 missile strikes, 60 airstrikes, and 36 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Private houses, hospitals, and other civilian and industrial infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline situation

Over the last day, 31 combat engagements took place. The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region, where the Russian forces, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. Russia also launched an airstrike near the town of Ivanivka, Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian army did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. It launched several airstrikes near the settlements of Makiivka, Nevske, Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region and Terny in the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled a Russian attack near Andriivka, Donetsk region, where the Russian troops were trying to regain its lost ground. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 3 enemy attacks in the areas of Stepove and Avdiivka and 12 more attacks in the areas of Sevierne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.Russia launched airstrikes near the towns of Oleksandropil and Novobakhmutivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under fire.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the Russian forces in the areas of Marinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy launched 5 unsuccessful attacks on the Ukrainian positions. About 5 localities were subjected to artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack west of Verbove. More than 25 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson direction, 5 localities in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions were subjected to Russian artillery fire.

Russia does not abandon its intention to drive our units from the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, the Russian forces made nine unsuccessful assaults on the Ukrainian positions.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes against Russian troops

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 10 of the invading Russian troops’ military positions and 3 anti-aircraft missile systems.

The missile troops hit 2 manpower concentration areas, 3 artillery pieces, 5 munitions depots, and 2 other important targets.

  • Over the past day, Ukrainian troops repelled Russian attacks in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Marinka, and Kupyansk directions. The Armed Forces also destroyed 850 Russian soldiers.
