Ukrainian forces explain why Russian army trying to seize Vuhledar
For the invading Russian forces, it is important to seize the town of Vuhledar, Donetsk region, because it is located on a dominant height
Arsenii Prylypka, head of the public relations service with the 72nd Detached Mechanized Brigade, said this during the telethon.
"As always, Russia is using aviation and artillery, destroying the town of Vuhledar and the surrounding villages near the frontline. Recently we had an assault, they tried to storm our positions. Why? Because Vuhledar is a dominant height. We always remember this, and so does the enemy. They need to take it, because without this town it will be difficult to move on. We repelled this assault quite successfully," said Prylypka.
According to the speaker, 90% of the heavy equipment used by the Russian troops was destroyed during this assault. He noted that the enemy does not have an "armored fist" there now, but armored vehicles are being used, in particular, some tanks are working from closed positions to cover the infantry.
"Civilians, unfortunately, remain in the town. There are up to 100 people there, as far as I know. People are receiving humanitarian aid," said Prylypka.
He added that there are more people in villages near Vuhledar than in the town, as villages are shelled less often.
