Ukrainian air defense shoots down 19 Shaheds, 11 Kalibrs in night attack on south
At night, Russia launched 19 Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 2 Oniks supersonic missiles at the Odesa region, as well as 12 Kalibr missiles with complex trajectories moving along numerous regions
The South Defense Forces of Ukraine reported the information.
According to the military, Russian terrorists attacked the southern areas of the country. At night, Russian troops launched 19 Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 2 Oniks supersonic missiles at Odesa region. They also launched 12 Kalibr missiles with complex trajectories moving along different regions.
Additionally, for their naval assault, Russian forces used a submarine alongside the surface missile carrier, operating from Novorossiysk Bay.
Ukraine’s air defense managed to destroy 19 Shaheds and 11 Kalibrs. Two Kalibr missiles were shot down over Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad regions respectively, and the majority were destroyed in the sky over the Odesa region.
As the Ukrainian Air Force later clarified, Shahed drones were launched from the southeast (Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia), Kalibrs from a small missile ship and a submarine from the Black Sea (Feodosia and Novorossiysk), and Oniks from the Sevastopol area. In total, during the night attack, the following were recorded:
- 12 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles;
- 2 P-800 Oniks anti-ship missiles;
- 19 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs.
The Air Force added that on September 24, air defense also destroyed three Lancet strike UAVs and four tactical reconnaissance drones. In total, over the past 2 days, Ukrainian tactical aviation has carried out over 30 sorties, one third of them to engage the enemy.
