Ukrainian air defence intercepts 14 Kinzhals, over 20 other ballistic missiles
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian air defence has intercepted 14 Kinzhal missiles and more than 20 other ballistic missiles fired by Russia
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Yuriy Ihnat, reported this in an interview with Ukrainian radio.
He noted that during the attack on August 11, the Russian forces used Kh-47 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles. One of them was shot down in the Kyiv region.
"These missiles can be intercepted by air defence systems capable of operating against ballistic missiles. There are not many such weapons in Ukraine, but still, there is a result. Ukraine's air defence has destroyed more than one Kinzhal missile. On May 16, six missiles were shot down, on June 16 – six more, and now we have another one," Ihnat said.
In addition, Ukrainian air defence forces have destroyed more than 20 other Russian ballistic missiles, including Iskanders and S-400.
"Given that the Kinzhal is flying at a high speed of over 7,000 kilometres per hour, there is not much time to target it," explained the Air Force spokesman.
He also noted that infrastructure and military targets are always in the enemy's sights, and the August 11 attack is proof that the enemy has certain information and is using it.
At the same time, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command assured that "the Ukrainian military leadership also understands this, and all necessary measures are being taken to save equipment and personnel and to minimise civilian casualties".

On August 11, during an air raid alert, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with missiles. The explosions were heard, in particular, in the Khmelnytsky region, where air defence systems were operating.

In addition, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the Russian forces hit a private house where a family with three children lived. An 8-year-old boy was killed as a result of the attack.

The Air Force spokesman later said that four Kinzhal missiles were sent to Ivano-Frankivsk region to strike a military airfield and young pilots who would soon be leaving for training to fly F-16 fighter jets.
