Ukraine’s army makes significant tactical gains in Zaporizhzhia region - ISW
Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced southeast of Robotyne and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region, achieving significant tactical successes

On August 23, Ukrainian troops continued offensive operations and achieved significant tactical success in the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region. Geolocated footage published on August 22 shows that Ukrainian military forces were advancing southeast of Robotyne (10 km south of Orikhiv) and northwest of Verbove (18 km southeast of Orikhiv).
Geolocated footage released on August 23 by Ukrainian sources, including the Ukrainian commander-in-chief, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, showed Ukrainian forces planting a flag in southern Robotyne, indicating that Russian forces likely hold limited positions remaining in the village.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the AFU achieved unspecified success in the direction of Novopokropivka (13km south of Orikhiv) and Novodanylivka (5km south of Orikhiv).
Russian military bloggers mostly claimed that fighting was ongoing to control Robotyne and that Russian forces had repelled Ukrainian attacks in and around the village. Some milbloggers claimed that Russian troops had pushed Ukrainian forces out of the central and northern parts of the settlement and that Russian forces retained control of the southern bridgehead in Robotyne.
- On August 21, the Ministry of Defense reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had succeeded near Robotyno and south of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
- On August 22, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Ukrainian military had succeeded in the direction of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region, and were consolidating the lines they had reached. At the same time, the Russian army is moving its troops and using reserves.
- On Tuesday, August 22, Ukrainian defenders from the 47th separate mechanized brigade entered the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region, and organized the evacuation of civilians. Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Viktor Burlyk said that the Ukrainian army had entered Robotyno, but that Russian units were still on the outskirts.
