Ukraine not invited to G20 summit, Indian Foreign Minister confirms
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has confirmed that Ukraine has not been invited to the G20 summit to be held in New Delhi on September 9-10
EFE news agency reported the information.
During a meeting in New Delhi with international media, the minister said that India had invited 9 countries to the summit - Spain, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mauritius, Egypt, the Netherlands, Oman, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Apart from them and the G20 members, no other country will participate in the summit.
Jaishankar said that India's decision not to invite Ukraine was made in view of the fact that the G20 stands for growth and development, not conflict resolution, which should be the responsibility of the UN Security Council. At the same time, the minister reminded that the Indian prime minister had met with his Ukrainian counterpart on several occasions and that the countries maintain "strong relations" in various fields.
The Group of 20 (G20), established in 1999, consists of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Together, they account for about 85% of world GDP, more than 75% of world trade, and about two-thirds of the world's population.
