Ukraine needs fighters to create perfect air defense system – Zelenskyy
In his address at the Council of Europe summit, Zelenskyy emphasized the need to strengthen Ukrainian air defense by providing Western fighter jets
This is reported by European Pravda.
Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine's air defense successfully shot down 100% of the missiles launched by Russia during the missile attack on Tuesday night. He attributed this achievement to the air defense systems provided by Western countries to Kyiv.
He said that a year ago, Ukraine faced challenges in intercepting terrorist missiles, particularly ballistic missiles, but the current unity and determination to protect lives have enabled them to achieve such results. He stated, "When we are united and determined to protect life, we can give 100% in any matter."
Considering Ukraine's vast territory, Zelenskyy expressed the need for additional air defense systems and missiles to make such successes the norm. He also emphasized the importance of fighter jets, which are crucial for a comprehensive air defense system. He expressed confidence that Ukraine will reach that point, setting 100% as their benchmark and leaving no chance for the aggressor.
Furthermore, Iceland, as the current chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, is hosting a summit of heads of state and government from 46 member states in Reykjavík on May 16-17. This marks the fourth summit of the Council of Europe since its establishment in 1949.
The summit focuses on the core values of the Council of Europe and providing support to Ukraine through specific measures aimed at achieving justice for the victims of Russian aggression.
During his evening address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned his participation in the online proceedings of the Council of Europe Summit in Reykjavík. He expressed gratitude to the countries of free Europe and the strong leaders for their support to Ukraine. He called for continued joint action to ensure the complete protection of Ukraine, Europe, and the free world from terrorist threats. Zelenskyy emphasized that freedom should not be endangered by terrorist rockets, guns, or blackmail.
