Ukraine confirms special operation in Crimea, hitting Russian military logistics
Ukrainian Special Operations Forces carried out a strike on logistics facilities in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight, disrupting supplies to Moscow’s troops on the peninsula
Radio Svoboda reported the information.
“The Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out special operations in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, as a result of which logistics facilities ensuring the functioning and combat supply of Russian military units were put out of action,” the Special Operations Forces said in a statement on Telegram. No details about the targeted facilities were provided.
Earlier today, Crimean Telegram channels reported explosions in Dzhankoi and in the Krasnogvardeisky District, which Ukrainian authorities refer to as the Kurmanskyi District — one of the 25 regions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The Telegram channel Crimean Wind suggested that an oil depot near the railway station may have been hit.
According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, eight drones were shot down over occupied Crimea in the morning. The ministry did not report any damage to infrastructure.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has regularly reported the activity of its air defense systems in Crimea but rarely confirms damage to military infrastructure on the peninsula. Meanwhile, Ukraine maintains that it has successfully struck military targets there, with Crimea remaining one of the key bases of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.
- On August 19, reports said that Ukraine’s defense forces had destroyed a Russian fuel train in occupied Zaporizhzhia. The strike has paralyzed a key rail link to Crimea, Defense Express said.
