Ukraine and 7 EU countries file UN complaint over Russia’s satellite interference
Eight European countries have accused Russia of disrupting satellite communications, filing a complaint with the UN’s telecommunication body over interference affecting media broadcasts and aviation navigation
NOS reported that eight European nations have filed a complaint with the UN-affiliated International Telecommunication Union, accusing Russia of interfering with European satellite communications.
The interference, traced to occupied Crimea and Kaliningrad, has disrupted satellites from providers Eutelsat and SES, affecting radio, television, and aviation navigation.
The complaint, signed by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, France, and the Netherlands, highlights Russia’s attempts to block Ukrainian broadcasts, with broader impacts, including Russian propaganda appearing on Dutch children's TV and navigation issues for over 30,000 flights.
While Russia denies involvement, France and Sweden plan to address the issue in UN talks in Geneva.
- The EU has approved sanctions against nearly 2,400 individuals and entities in response to Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
