The US is trying to block supplies and make it more difficult for Iranian drones to launch over Ukraine
Administration of the United States President Joe Biden is making efforts to prevent Iran from producing and supplying drones to Russia, which is used to attack Ukraine.
The New York Times reports with reference to sources.
According to the publication, a number of representatives of intelligence, military and national security services described an expanded US program, which aims to block Iran's ability to produce drones, make it difficult for Russian troops to launch those devices and - if this does not help - to provide Ukrainians with means of defense necessary for shooting down Russian drones in the sky.
The scale of this effort has become more apparent in recent weeks. The administration accelerated its move to strip Iran of Western components needed to make drones sold to Russia after an examination of the wreckage of intercepted drones revealed that they contained microelectronics from the United States.
Americans help the Ukrainian military in identifying sites from which Russian drones are launched. And they also provide devices capable of detecting Russian drones at long distances.
In November the United States introduced additional sanctions against individuals and legal entities involved in the production or transfer of Iranian drones to Russia, and in December - also against Russian institutions due to their involvement in the illegal purchase of drones from Iran and their use in the war in Ukraine. EU also introduced new sanctions against Iran for supplying Russia with drones to wage war against Ukraine.
