The Italian publication ANSA writes about it.
Pope Francis compared the Russian war in Ukraine with the Nazi plan to exterminate Polish Jews. The events took place between 1942 and 1943 in the Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka camps. About 1.7 million Jews and an unknown number of Poles, Roma and Soviet prisoners of war were killed then.
“On Monday, the Center for Catholic-Jewish Relations of the Catholic University of Lublin marked the anniversary of Operation Reinhardt, which led to the extermination of almost two million victims, mostly of Jewish origin, during World War II. History repeats itself. Now we see what is happening in Ukraine," the Pope said during the general audience.
The pontiff also called to pray for peace.
