The EU disconnected seven Russian banks from SWIFT and banned the aggressor from exporting euros
The European Union disconnects seven Russian banks from the SWIFT system and prohibits citizens and companies from transferring euro banknotes to Russia.
This is discussed in a message on the website of the Council of the EU.
The European Union prohibits the use of the international SWIFT system for Otkritie Bank, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Bank Rossiya, Sovcombank, VNESHEKONOMBANK (VEB), and VTB BANK.
This ban will enter into force on the tenth day after publication in the Official Journal of the EU (i.e. from March 12). It will also apply to any legal entity or organization registered in Russia whose property rights are owned by more than 50% of the aforementioned banks.
In addition, European legal entities and individuals are prohibited from participating in any future projects of the Direct Investment Fund, which have previously been sanctioned by Britain and the United States.
The European Union also prohibits the sale, delivery, transfer, or export of euro banknotes to Russia or any person or entity, entity, or body in Russia, including the government and the Central Bank of Russia, or for use in Russia.
Note that the EU ambassadors finally decided not to include in SWIFT such Russian banks as Sberbank, the country's largest creditor, and Gazprombank.
