Terrorist state, international tribunal, expulsion from UN Security Council: Estonian parliament to vote on resolution on Russia
A draft resolution, which recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, calls for the creation of a special international tribunal, and for Russia to be stripped of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, was submitted to the Estonian Parliament on Tuesday
This is stated by the ERR publication.
It is expected that on Tuesday afternoon, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs will discuss the draft resolution and send it to the plenary session for discussion and voting. It was presented by 85 deputies.
According to the presented project, the Parliament of Estonia, the Riigikogu, sharply condemns the military actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the illegal annexation of the territory seized during the aggression.
The Parliament confirms that Estonia will never recognize the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity as a result of aggression and the holding of sham referendums.
Also, according to the document, the parliament supports the investigations launched by the UN International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to clarify the circumstances of the crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine, and considers it necessary to conduct a trial of those guilty of the crime of aggression within the framework of a special international tribunal.
"Supporting the appeal of the Parliament of Ukraine to states and international organizations, the Riigikogu declares the Russian regime a terrorist, and the Russian Federation a state sponsor of terrorism, whose actions must be repelled jointly. The Riigikogu calls on the international community to adopt similar declarations," the draft document states.
In addition, the parliament considers it necessary to recognize the armed forces of the pseudo-republics "LPR" and "DPR" and the Wagner private military company as terrorist organizations.
The Riigikogu also condemns the Russian regime's announcement and conduct of mobilization, which violates international law, noting that mobilization carried out with the purpose of continuing criminal aggression is a crime against peace.
The Riigikogu also supports the demand to deprive the Russian Federation of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and calls on the member states of the European Union to show unity in the application of additional economic sanctions directed against the Russian Federation and its ally Belarus and sanctions against individuals, as well as to monitor strict compliance with the introduced before the sanctions.
The Riigikogu also calls on the European Union and NATO to significantly increase the volume of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine and to support the post-war reconstruction of the country.
