Strikes on Chonhar and Henichesk bridges: What kind of trap is being prepared for Russian troops?
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO, thinks that Ukrainian Armed Forces are setting up conditions to reroute Russian cargo through the route passing Armyansk, which falls within the HIMARS target area
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"On August 6, notable events unfolded involving the deployment of long-range Storm Shadow missiles. Our Air Force utilized these missiles on the occasion of the Day of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Two road bridges connecting the occupied Crimea with the occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions were hit. Photos and videos show the accuracy of the hit on the Chonhar bridge, while the bridge from Henichesk towards Arabat Spit was much more damaged. It is highly likely that Storm Shadow missiles were employed for these strikes, as they are specifically designed to destroy such powerful structures. These missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers are capable of destroying protected objects because the warhead weighs 450 kilograms," the military expert noted.
Zgurets added that these strikes prove significantly more effective compared to past attacks involving HIMARS, which targeted bridges in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
"The current focus is on the systematic efforts of the Air Force and the Armed Forces to disrupt the enemy's utilization of bridges for supplying their forces in the southern region. In the long run, this will have an impact on the ability of this group to hold the line. We see that the bridges in Chonhar and Henichesk are being hit. However, there is another direction through Armyansk that seems to remain intact. I think that the Ukrainian side is doing this quite deliberately, so that the enemy can start transporting traffic with cargo for the Russian army via a longer route. But, interestingly, this route falls within the HIMARS target area. In my opinion, this is a long-term trap for Russian logistics. In any case, we can say that yesterday's events have confirmed the Ukrainian army's sustainable strategy of destroying the enemy's capabilities on many frontiers," emphasized Zgurets.
Strikes on the Chonhar Bridge from Crimea
On the night of June 22, Russia reported an explosion on the Chonhar Bridge near the temporarily occupied Crimea.
On the morning of July 29, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched another successful strike on the Chonhar Bridge. The information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' successful strike was confirmed by the Center for Strategic Communications in the evening of the same day.
On August 6, Ukrainian Defense Forces missiles hit the Chonhar Bridge and the bridge across the Tonka Strait connecting the city of Henichesk with the Arabat Spit.
