Strike and fire at Engels airfield are quite effective - military expert Zgurets

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

"The enemy's strategy does not change. It has two components: 1) terrorist, associated with strikes on our critical infrastructure and 2)military, embodied in an attempt to push through on the front lines. Strikes by Ukrainian drones on the airfield in Engels, which took place tonight, are a continuation of our proactive tactics. This strike and a massive fire at the airfield are a sign that the drone strikes were quite effective," emphasized Zgurets.

According to the expert, Russia has not redeployed aircraft from the Engels airfield, despite the fact that there were statements it had moved strategic bombers to the North.

"The Russian Ministry of Defense has already admitted that Russian servicemen were killed there, that air defense was operating, that they shot down Ukrainian drones and, allegedly, no damage was done to the aircraft. But we understand that Russia will not recognize the losses associated with the strikes. Because it undermines the basis of the Russian nuclear triad. If we can destroy Russian strategic bombers with conventional drones, it means that Russian air defense is not operating well and the Russian nuclear triad is vulnerable. And this will affect Russia's ability to carry out cruise missile strikes on Ukraine," Zgurets added.

• On December 5, Russian military airfields Diagilevo, Ryazan region, and Engels, Saratov region, were attacked.
• Three Russian servicemen who were at the airfield were fatally wounded. Four more were injured.
• According to unconfirmed reports, two Tu-95MS strategic bombers were damaged as a result of the explosion at one of the airfields, and a fuel tanker exploded at the other.
• In the evening, the Russian Defense Ministry admitted that two airfields were hit.
• An air raid alert was triggered near the airfield of the Russian city of Engels, Saratov region.  Explosions were heard at the airfield.
