U.S. poised to impose new Russia sanctions if Putin balks at peace deal

The U.S. is considering various options, including the possibility of targeting vessels from Russia's so-called shadow fleet, which are used to transport oil, as well as traders who facilitate these transactions.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed these plans during a meeting with a group of European ambassadors earlier this week.

According to several sources, the new measures could be announced as early as this week. However, as emphasized, the final decision on implementing the sanctions rests with U.S. President Donald Trump.
