Most G7 nations ready to lower Russian oil price cap without U.S.
Most G7 nations are prepared to lower the price cap on Russian oil, even if U.S. President Donald Trump refuses to do so
Reuters reported the information, citing four sources.
According to the news agency's sources, Europe and the United Kingdom are ready to lead the initiative to lower the price of Russian oil and act independently on this issue. Canada and other European G7 countries also support this.
The sources emphasize that Europeans are insisting on a joint decision during the G7 meeting in Canada, which will take place on June 15-17, but it is unknown what the U.S. will decide.
It is also emphasized that Japan's position remains uncertain.
"There is a push among European countries to lower the oil price cap to$45 from$60. There are positive signals from Canada, Britain, and possibly from the Japanese. We will use the G7 to try to involve the U.S.," said a Reuters source.
On June 11, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU could independently lower the price cap on Russian oil without U.S. consent, thanks to control over the Baltic and Black Seas.
