EU can lower Russian oil price cap without U.S. support — Kaja Kallas
EU's top diplomat Kaja Kallas says that the EU, without the consent of the U.S., can independently lower the price cap on Russian oil by controlling the Baltic and Black Seas
She said this at the Brussels Forum, reports European Pravda.
According to Kallas, the European Union can lower the maximum price for Russian oil without the United States, which will have an impact on the Kremlin's economy.
"Of course, it is important that the United States is also with us, and we have been working together for quite a long time. The oil price cap was approved by the G7, and then by the European Union," she emphasized.
The diplomat emphasized that Russian oil mostly enters Europe through the Black and Baltic Seas. Kallas added that it is "no less important for the EU what we do alone, because we are also a player."
"Therefore, in fact, even if the Americans are not on board, we can still do it (lower the price cap for Russian oil - ed.) and have an impact," the head of EU diplomacy emphasized.
On June 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that in order to stop Russian aggression, his American counterpart Donald Trump should introduce additional sanctions against Russia, in particular, to help ensure that the price of Russian oil falls to $30 per barrel.
