Hungary won't block 13th package of EU sanctions against Russia, FM Szijjártó says
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó says that Hungary won't block the 13th package of EU sanctions against Russia because the clauses that contradict Hungarian interests were removed
Szijjártó’s statement says this.
"Hungary will not block the sanctions package against Russia, as all items contrary to Hungarian interests were removed at the preparation stage," the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
He added that the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine “should be an occasion to promote a ceasefire and peace talks.”
- On February 7, media reported that the EU plans to impose sanctions on February 24 against a number of Belarusian and Russian military personnel fighting in Ukraine, as well as against kidnappers of Ukrainian children and foreign companies that help Russia circumvent restrictions.
- On February 8, it became known that the European Union plans to include companies that provided transportation and logistics of ammunition from North Korea to Russia in the 13th sanctions package against Russia.
- On February 12, the list of companies that the EU proposes to sanction for helping Russia includes three Chinese firms for the first time since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
- On February 15, at a meeting of EU ambassadors, Hungary blocked the approval of the 13th package of EU sanctions against Russia. The country did not agree with the new measures because of the presence of Chinese companies on the list.
