EU delegation heads to Washington to coordinate new sanctions on Russia
Europe’s team is going to Washington, where, together with the Americans, it will work on a new package of sanctions against Russia
President of the European Council António Costa stated this, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He emphasized that Europeans and Americans are working together to increase pressure on Moscow through direct and secondary sanctions.
"More economic measures to force Russia to stop this war, stop killing people, stop this war in Ukraine. And work on a new sanctions package is starting in Brussels, and our team, the European team, is heading to Washington to work with our American friends," Costa said.
At the same time, the head of the European Council stressed that the EU is working together with Kyiv, in particular on accession to the bloc.
"It is clear that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is not only the best guarantee of security, it is also the most effective path to prosperity and a better future for Ukrainians," he said.
On September 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Uzhhorod with the President of the European Council António Costa.
