Russia's winter offensive has failed – British intelligence
The Russian army's winter offensive campaign led by Valery Gerasimov lasted 80 days and failed. Russia managed to achieve a minor success at the cost of tens of thousands of casualties among its soldiers
The UK Ministry of Defenсe tweeted a report on the matter.
According to analysts, Valery Gerasimov's command of the occupation army has been characterized by an attempt to launch a major winter offensive with the aim of expanding Russian control over the entire territory of Ukrainian Donbas region.
"Eighty days on, it is increasingly apparent that this project has failed," the report says.
It is noted that in several axes along the front in eastern Ukraine, Russian forces have achieved only minor success at the cost of tens of thousands of casualties, having largely squandered their temporary advantage in personnel gained as a result of the autumn "partial mobilization".
"After ten years as Chief of the General Staff, there is a realistic possibility that Gerasimov is pushing the limits of how far Russia's political leadership will tolerate failure," the UK intelligence service noted.
