Russia's two-month tank losses near Pokrovsk exceed entire Bundeswehr stock
The Russian forces lost more tanks in the first two months of 2024 than the entire German Bundeswehr has in service — nearly 300
Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia troop grouping, stated this during a TV broadcast, as reported by Ukrinform.
"They [the Russians] have undeniably lost a significant amount of heavy equipment. In just the first two months of this year, their tank losses exceeded the total number of tanks in the Bundeswehr — almost 300. Their resources are not limitless, and their logistics are stretched thin. This leads to unusual tactics: using tanks instead of IFVs to transport troops due to a lack of IFVs or not deploying tanks where they are needed because they simply don’t have them," Trehubov explained.
According to him, this indicates growing exhaustion on the Russian side, especially in the Pokrovsk sector.
However, he noted that Russian forces are still conducting occasional tank column breakthroughs, though these are exceptions rather than the norm. More frequently, tanks are used to transport infantry rather than serve as breakthrough or fire-support vehicles.
- Reserve Major of the National Guard of Ukraine and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksiy Hetman, believes that the front line in the Pokrovsk sector has stabilized.
