Russia stockpiling P-800 Oniks missiles - military expert
Since November 2023, the Russian army has not used P-800 Oniks missiles against Ukraine. In Russia, the production rate of these missiles is about one every 2-3 days, with 10-20 delivered to the military each month

Military expert Olexandr Kovalenko shared this information on Telegram, noting that, since November 2023, the Russian military has accumulated at least 500 of these missiles, including older stockpiles.
According to Kovalenko, earlier this year, the Russian P-800 Oniks missiles were upgraded with more advanced active radar homing heads, improving their accuracy and making them more resistant to electronic warfare systems.
“The P-800 Oniks missiles have primarily been launched by Russia at the southern part of Ukraine, targeting Odesa and Mykolaiv.
The main issue is that only advanced air defense systems, like the Patriot and SAMP/T, are capable of intercepting these missiles”, Kovalenko concluded.
- In October 2024, Russia switched its tactics against Ukraine away from the massive missile attacks seen in September. However, it did regularly launch single strikes, mainly using Kh-59/69 and 9M723 missiles.
