Russia attacks two Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants: traffic blocked through Dnipro HPP
On the night of June 1, the invading Russian army attacked two hydroelectric power plants. The Dnipro HPP has been critically damaged
Ukrhydroenergo reports.
"Another extremely difficult night for the Ukrainian energy sector. The enemy fired at energy facilities in five regions of Ukraine, and two hydroelectric power plants were hit," the statement says.
In addition, hits were also recorded in the infrastructure near the stations.
The Russian attack caused critical damage to equipment. Hydro power engineers are working to eliminate the consequences.
As of the evening of June 1, specialists have already started work to restore traffic through the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant in Zaporizhzhia.
"The Dnipro hydroelectric power plant is in a critical condition. We are not even talking about electricity generation. As of now, traffic from the left bank to the right bank is completely blocked, so our residents are limited in traffic. Two bridges with logistics in both directions are used as a detour," Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration, explained.
According to him, it was not possible to restore traffic to the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant as planned in a matter of hours.
"We will now consult with specialists, engineers, and designers to ensure that if we open the traffic, it must be safe," Fedorov added.
- On the evening of May 31 and at night of June 1, Russian troops fired missiles and Shaheds at Ukraine: in total, power facilities in 5 regions came under attack. Ukrainian air defense downed 81 aerial targets.
