Kadyrov's henchman convicted in Ukraine for torturing civilians during Kyiv battles
In Ukraine, a court has sentenced a henchman of Ramzan Kadyrov to 11 years in prison for torturing civilians during the battle for Kyiv
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police.
The person convicted is Daniil Martynov, who served as the deputy commander of the Rosgvardia in Chechnya and is a member of Ramzan Kadyrov's inner circle; Kadyrov is the head of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation.
On March 5, Martynov personally led the seizure of the Borodianka psychoneurological boarding school in the Kyiv region, where he ordered nearly 500 people to be taken hostage, including more than a hundred bedridden patients, along with staff and local residents. The approaches to the building were mined, and the boarding school was turned into a firing position for the occupying forces.
Based on evidence from SBU investigators, the court found Martynov guilty of violating the laws of war and cruel treatment of civilians under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The trial was held in absentia, meaning Martynov was not present. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russians have committed 137,000 war crimes, and there should be at least as many sentences against them.
