Russian troops unprepared for Kakhovka HPP destruction, water floods Russian soldiers, weapons and equipment - AFU General Staff

Following the Kakhovka HPP destruction and the subsequent flooding of several settlements, the units of an Russian airborne assault division and the army corps face losses in manpower. Meanwhile, Russian troops have used local residents who evacuated from Kakhovka as human shields

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the information in its morning report on June 8

"The occupiers were not prepared for the consequences of the Kakhovka HPP dam destruction, and suffered losses in manpower, weapons and military equipment," the statement said. 

In particular, the units of the 7th Air Assault Division and the 22nd Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces face losses, with soldiers being injured, killed or missing. Also, these units lost several field depots with ammunition and provisions, vehicles and armored vehicles, and other military assets.

On June 6, civilians in the town of Kakhovka evacuated using their own vehicles.

During the evacuation, Russian troops used the same evacuation routes as the civilian population, employing local residents as human shields.

Russia launches 5 missile and 48 air strikes on Ukraine in a day

In the past day, Russia launched 5 missile strikes, 48 air strikes, and 70 MLRS attacks. These attacks resulted in the destruction of infrastructure and casualties among civilians.

The threat of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains very high.

30 combat clashes take place at the frontline: the situation by directions

Russian troops attempt to fully occupy Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Over the last day, 30 combat clashes took place in the area.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian troops maintain military presence in the areas bordering Ukraine. 

Over the past day, they launched an air strike near a settlement in the Kharkiv region.

Furthermore, Russian forces launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of 22 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops carried out air strikes near 2 settlements in Luhansk and Kharkiv regions.

Thirteen settlements across Kharkiv and Luhansk regions came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful assault near Vesele in the Donetsk region over the past day.

They carried out air strikes near 9 settlements in the Donetsk region. Seven settlements across Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful assault near 3 settlements.

Russian troops launched air strikes near 2 settlements. They also shelled 10 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful assault near Avdiivka and another settlement.

The Russian army also launched air strikes near Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region and shelled 5 settlements with artillery. 

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled numerous attacks near the town of Marinka. Russia suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment.

Russian troops launched air strikes on Krasnohorivka and shelled 7 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops launched air strikes on 3 settlements and shelled 4 more settlements. 

In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian forces are on the defensive.

They carried out air strikes on 3 settlements in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Russian forces shelled 20 settlements across Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson regions.

Ukrainian Armed Forces hit 4 Russian command posts, 5 ammunition depots and an electronic warfare station

On June 7, the aviation of the Ukrainian defense forces carried out 23 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel and 4 on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit 4 control points, 9 clusters of manpower, weapons and military equipment, 5 ammunition depots, 2 anti-aircraft missile systems and 1 radar station.

In addition, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 4 Russian reconnaissance UAVs.
