Russian troops still attack in Bakhmut direction, but now actively dig trenches - Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Firsov
Yehor Firsov, a serviceman with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and an MP, believes that Russian troops fear the Ukrainian counteroffensive, but dig very deep trenches
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"For your understanding, New York is a small town located near Horlivka and a little bit lower than Avdiivka, so it is in the epicenter of the fighting. In general, the situation is unchanged, i.e. the enemy attacks, tries to break through, commits various kinds of provocations. The enemy is trying to break through either with an infantry offensive or with heavy equipment. The first thing that has changed is that the weather is making some adjustments, the rainy season has begun and the ground is very soft, so any equipment gets stuck and advances very slowly," said the Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman.
Yehor Firsov noted the second point observed by Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance via quadcopters: Russian troops are using a shovel rather than a rifle.
"Over the last month they have been actively digging trenches, doing everything to dig themselves in as efficiently as possible and build more fortifications. In my opinion, the enemy is afraid of our counteroffensive, but we must take into account that they are digging very deep. And the third point is that we are getting more weapons, little by little, both from our Western partners and from our own manufacturers. Of course, we would like more, but the weapons are coming, which gives us a certain advantage and confidence," Firsov said.
