Russian forces may be encircled in Bakhmut sector – Defense Minister Reznikov
Despite a certain advance of Russian troops near Kupyansk, they may find themselves in an operational encirclement in the Bakhmut direction
Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said this at a press conference, RBC-Ukraine reported.
"This is a logical move by the enemy to divert our attention by attacking there so that we can take the units from the south and east. But General Syrskyi, who commands the Khortytsia grouping of troops, is simultaneously holding the line in that direction and counterattacking in the Bakhmut direction. The Russians seem to be making some progress there, but if we advance (in the Bakhmut direction - Ed.), then they will be surrounded," he noted.
Reznikov underlined that Ukrainian units are not going away from the south, although Russian units are continually moving from the Kherson region to the south (Zaporizhzhia), and from the south to the east.
According to Defense Minister, such actions of the occupying Russian forces are a good sign for Ukraine.
"As the military says, 'the situation is difficult but under control,'" Reznikov summarized.
