Russian forces deploy military personnel, equipment on St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral's premises in Melitopol – General Staff

In the temporarily occupied Melitopol, invading Russian forces have set up a military base with equipment right on the territory of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on June 1.

In addition, the Russian troops converted a children's sanatorium in the city into a military hospital, where more than 200 soldiers with injuries of varying severity are being treated.

Ukrainian aviation launched 9 airstrikes on Russian military positions, 2 on air defense systems

In turn, the missile and artillery units struck a control center, an anti-aircraft missile system, 5 artillery units at a firing position, and 9 military positions.

In addition, the Russian troops launched 12 missile strikes using 10 Iskander ballistic and cruise missiles (destroyed by Ukrainian defenders) and 2 S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles at Kharkiv.

Civilians were killed and wounded, and a children's clinic, apartment buildings, private homes and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

Invading Russian forces continue their attempts to fully occupy the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Over the last day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 19 enemy attacks.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian Federation continued shelling Ukrainian border areas with mortars and artillery: 3 settlements in the Chernihiv region, 6 more in the Sumy region, as well as 12 towns and villages in the Kharkiv region were attacked.

Over the past day, May 31, occupying Russian forces attacked at least 9 Ukrainian regions. The attacks resulted in deaths and injuries.
