Russian army has many guided bombs and their number will increase – military expert
Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, noted that the Russian forces are installing a special kit on a conventional high-explosive aircraft bomb that could have been produced 40-50 years ago in the Soviet Union
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
"We need to understand that the enemy has a lot of guided aerial bombs (GAB - ed.) and their number will increase. We are not talking about finished products in the form of gliding bombs, such as Grom-E1, but about universal gliding and correction modules, which are a conceptual copy of JDAM-ER. That is, it is a special kit that is installed on a conventional high-explosive aircraft bomb that could have been produced 40-50 years ago in the Soviet Union. It is this kit that turns the bomb into a satellite navigation gliding device," explained the editor-in-chief of Defense Express.
Oleh Katkov noted that the first information about these bombs emerged early this year, and at the end of March the Air Force Command reported that the enemy was constantly using them.
"The Russian Federation has the ability to increase the number of such bombs, and they have no dependence on the carriers of this munition. When we talked about cruise missiles, it all came down to the number of carriers in the form of Russian strategic aviation, such as Tu-95 and Tu-160. And these FAB-500s (high explosive bombs - ed.) with the universal gliding and correction modules are lifted by all tactical aircraft of the Russian Federation, that is, Su-30, Su-35, and Su-34 frontline bombers. We must understand that Russia actually has more than 500 tactical aircraft. Given the number of air bases, they can use several hundred of these aircraft, and most likely each of them is a carrier of such a glider bomb," Katkov said.
